[glow=red,2,300]Woodcutting[/glow]
A lot of people in RuneScape think "woodcutting? BORING!", but this is not the case. It is a very useful skill, as some Scapers have found out. I for one have made over 4 million on it. To cut a tree, all you need is an Axe (a hatchet) (Bronze, Mithril, Rune, etc.) and then click on a tree that is labelled "Tree", not Oak or Yew etc. Also, Woodcutting is available on the free servers, but they can only cut Regular Trees, Oak Trees, Willow Trees, and Yew Trees.
The following table shows what level attack you need to wield the hatchet. If you cannot wield the hatchet, you can still use it at any attack or woodcutting level, but you must have it in your inventory instead of actually wielding it. WARNING woodcutting has random events also, such as a Tree Ent which can break your hatchet if you do not stop chopping right away. If this happens take the damaged hatchet to Lumbridge and talk to Bob, who will gladly repair it for a few coins. Or you may be attacked by a lovely Tree Spirit (level varies depending upon your level; see Random Events Special Report.)

You get Magic logs at such a low rate that the change in rate between level 75 and 99 is hard to really notice. I'm a level 95 woodcutter and it takes me around 20 minutes to get a full load of Magic logs.

Suggested Spots to Cut Down Trees
There are 5 Willow trees right outside the Draynor Bank for Free Play, and 9 Willow trees just on the shore line of Rimmington.
There are 6 Yew Trees South of the Flax Fields(For Non-members you can cut Yews at North of Port Sarim, One near Falador's South Gate, One next to Varrock Church, The forest South-East of Draynor Village has four Yew trees. Also behind Varrock Palace are three Yew trees and some next to earth alter).. There are 5 Maples at Seers' Village. [note that there are currently no Maples in F2P areas.] There is 1 Magic Tree near the Gnome Stronghold Agility Center, and some located south west of LLetya (The trees are located close to Eluned , who is An npc for roving elves and Mournings End 1). Hollow Trees (notable for their Dr. Seuss-like appearance with rings around the trunk) are located exclusively in the swamp area East of Canifis (the Werewolf Village). Note that you will be constantly attacked by the Leeches in this area.
There are lots of regular Trees to be cut outside of Draynor Village.
How To Make Money
Cut down a lot of Willow, Maple, or Yew Logs and Sell Them.
Willow Logs Sell For 50 GP Each
Maple Logs Sell For 100-200 GP Each
Yew Logs Sell For 250-300 GP Each
Magic Logs Sell For 1000-1300 GP Each
It is recommended that you cut down Yews and sell them, they give you a lot of experience and sell for a lot.
Power Woodcutting Option
Normal woodcutting can be slow - but there is a Power Woodcutting option. I found out about this power woodcutting style while I was doing the Legends Quest. I noticed that I gained a woodcutting level as I passed through the jungle one time. I decided to check out what gave me the experience and how much experience was gained. I found that that cutting the jungle trees and jungle bushes both gave 100 experience points whenever you retrieve a log from them. However, the jungle trees were harder to cut and only only gave experience when you chopped down the tree. On the other hand, the jungle bushes were easy to chop down and gave experience for each chop.
As a result of the jungle bushes, I was able to gain 120,000 in woodcutting experience in one hour. That is a pretty decent amount of experience - but keep in mind you will gain experience without the hassle of the logs.
Now this Power Woodcutting option is good for woodcutting levels between 50 - 90 as after you reach level 90, you will gain more experience per yew log than you will per jungle bush.
Im not saying this is the best place for woodcutting, but it is a great place to gain experience if you are under level 90 woodcutting - or at least the best place I have found so far.
So if you are ready for some Power Woodcutting, this is what you do:
Start the Legends Quest
To start the Legend's Quest you will need: 107 quest points and have completed the following quests: Hero's, Family Crest, Waterfall and Underground Pass
Note: You do not have to have the required levels to start the quest
Bring a machete and head off to the Kharazi Jungle at the South end of Karamja Island (south of Shilo Village)
Just start chopping
Tips on Power Woodcutting in the jungle:
Stand close to the edge of the jungle so you can chop out fast when a Genie or a Mysterious Old Man shows up. Just cut your way into the square next to them and talk to them. Then you can get back to the spot where you were gaining your experience.
Be nice to your fellow Power Woodcutters and find a part of the jungle not already occupied.
Pros on Power Woodcutting:
It's a very fast way way of getting woodcutting experience.
You will never have to worry about your axe breaking as you will not need a hatchet.
You will not have to worry about random events because they can't get to you (the Mysterious Old Man and the Genie can still teleport you if you stand in the wrong place).
Cons on PowerWoodcutting:
You will not get any money from this as there will be nothing really to sell.
It will be boring.
